Our values
Every product decision we make is testable against this page. If it does not pass, we do not build it.
Why we exist
This company started with a loss
In 2007, our founder's wife died seven days after delivering their third daughter, because of mistakes in her medical data. The warning signs were there. They never made it up the chain.
Your Data Health exists so that no family experiences that failure again: health data you can trust, control, and prove. Privacy-first, patient-owned infrastructure built for interoperability, accountability, and the people the healthcare system has historically left behind. The full story is on our About page. This page is the standard that story holds us to.
How we work
Eight values, in writing
Integrity
Tell the truth. No deception by commission or omission. Honesty is a prerequisite for trust in patient safety work, and every commitment we make, we keep.
Excellence
Continuous improvement, reproducible rigor, and defendable evidence behind every recommendation. We set the standard; we do not follow it.
Inclusivity
Diverse perspectives strengthen outcomes. We do not build things that exclude lean startups, community organizations, or underserved populations.
Intelligence
Rigorous, data-driven thinking on every problem. We surface the truth even when it is uncomfortable, and we think before we build.
Educating others
Knowledge compounds. We teach what we learn: to our members, our communities, and the next generation of builders. Education is not a cost; it is our multiplier.
Compassion
Every technical decision has a human being downstream. We build for real families, not abstract metrics.
Respect
We honor the inherent dignity of every person: patients, partners, teammates, communities. We listen before we prescribe, and we never treat people as data points.
Accountability
We are answerable to the patients whose data we protect, the partners who trust our work, and the communities we serve. Zero critical defects in production is our standard.
What we believe
Rights, not features
Healthcare is a human right. Education is a human right. Patient data belongs to the patient, especially mental health data, where privacy protections are rights, not compliance checkboxes.
We serve the poor and the vulnerable first, pricing our work so that organizations that cannot afford Big 4 consulting are included rather than excluded. And we believe wealth concentration is a structural harm: we build systems that distribute value, not extract it.
What we promise
Hold us to these
Your data is never sold
Your data is yours. If it ever earns anything, you decide who may lease it, and you keep the overwhelming share.
Your data is never held hostage
We will never destroy, lock, or withhold your data over a missed payment, a lapsed subscription, or a dispute.
Your exit is never buried
Taking a complete copy of your data and leaving is always easy, always free.
Failures are never hidden
If something goes wrong with your data, you hear it from us, plainly, in time to act.
Privacy is the architecture, not a setting
We design our systems so that your health records are encrypted under keys only you hold, built so that even we cannot read them.
The +1% Promise
Giving back is structural
At least 1% of our revenue, time, and equity goes back to community: education grants, scholarships, small business support, and startup funding for founders who do not look like the typical pitch deck. This is not philanthropy. It is structural accountability, operating from day one.
Who we stand with
Frameworks we answer to
Our practices are testable against the organizations and frameworks we align with:
- CHAI (Coalition for Health AI): transparency, fairness, safety, and accountability in health AI.
- EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation): digital privacy, strong encryption, open standards.
- GLIA Foundation : data literacy, digital equity, and human-centric technology.
- IAPP privacy-by-design : data minimization, purpose limitation, user control.
- B Corporation principles : stakeholder value over shareholder value.
- ISTQB : risk-based testing that puts patient safety first.
